Bearing of Educational Expenses of Children of Martyrs

The J&K administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has taken a much-needed step of bearing the educational expenses of the children of policemen killed during militant-related incidents. The decision would be a sign of respect and appreciation for their services to the UT as well as the nation. This gesture of the administration is purely aimed at helping the families of the deceased policemen in maintaining the education of their children, who otherwise might have had to discontinue due to the death of their bread earners. The move will help the families of the slain police personnel to, somehow, cope with the loss and also continue their children’s education without any financial constraints.

The administration’s action should be commended since it will allow the families of the killed police officers to provide their children with the opportunity to complete their education despite the trauma they have experienced. The action is significant because it demonstrates the administration’s dedication to its citizens, particularly the families of the deceased police officers. In addition, it sends a clear message that the government values the work of its police and will make sure that the requirements of the deceased’s families, particularly their children’s education costs, are met. Moreover, it will also help in reducing the financial burden on the families of the slain policemen.

Under the initiative, the government has asked private schools to admit these students as members of the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and will reimburse monthly fees, transportation costs up to a maximum of Rs 3,000 per child per month, and annual uniform costs up to a maximum of Rs 10,000 per child per year. This is more than enough and will help ease the burden on these families, who may already be struggling. The LG-led administration deserves appreciation for all that has been announced since it will go a long way and produce positive outcomes in the end. The administration has now put in place enough for the families of the killed cops to sustain themselves in a better way, so they won’t feel left out anymore.

No compensation, indeed, can bring back those who have lost their lives, but at least the assistance which is now going to be provided to these families will make them feel better; they won’t at least feel to have been left to fend for themselves; they will have the entire nation at their back with the Government trying to do bit more in days to come for the welfare of the families of the slain policemen. The Government must try to find out ways in which these families could be supported further, such as providing financial aid for medical expenses, housing, or for any other form of support that may be needed by the families. As of now, bearing the educational expenses is going to make a great difference.
