State & Roshini Land Encroachment: Sharks Under Hammer

There is a need for going easy on the poor people who have always been on the receiving end in J&K. They must be allowed to live peacefully as the Government takes on to the bigwigs of political corruption.

For decades, the so-called elected representatives, verily the politicians, did everything to fill their coffers and along with them, the people who had the money power and political influence. The people falling in these categories have resorted to loot and plunder, got the Government lands, apart from other benefits, in their names, for their families and relatives. On the outside, pretentiously, they cared for the people they represented, but deep within, all they looked for was the fulfilment of their interests, at any cost. What they have been living on for years has now started to come out as the Government begins to identify sharks who have been encroaching upon the state land.

Earlier, they were under the scanner and now, they are literally under the hammer as the LG administration has made it a point to retrieve all the land owned by the Government from these big sharks and to ensure that the land they have occupied using their influence, is put for a greater use—for the development and the employment generation in J&K. For all these years, these big mouthed people talked about heavens but brought nothing except for miseries to the people. It has now become clear that they have been working, not for the people’s interests, but very well for their own and has remained their sole inspiration.

The Administration has now further tightened the noose by setting January 31st as the deadline to ensure 100 per cent encroachments are removed on the State and Roshni lands in the Union Territory, which means that in the days to come the air is going to turn heavy for the violators who have been sitting on what doesn’t even belong to them for years altogether. Which also means that more details will come out on who has encroached on what, and for how long? There sure will be the majority of cases related to the politician and people-of-money with political backing involved in the encroachment of land, but the process would be more impactful if the administration puts the names of these people including their political affiliations, if any, out.

While people do know who has done what, the administration is duty-bound to tell the general public who was encroaching on what over the years, because people must be made aware of the bungling these people have been involved in under the pretext of just being out there to serve people. With few exceptions, these people have not served people, but have greatly served their interests: that’s all. While the action against sharks, filling their endless tummies by making fools out of people, is a welcome step taken by the administration–which must intensify in days to come—there is a need for going easy on the poor people who have always been on the receiving end in J&K. They must be allowed to live peacefully as the Government takes on to the bigwigs of political corruption.
