Over time, we see, these people with money and muscle power keep on growing, becoming richer, accumulating wealth and giving back nothing to society. On top of that, while they expanded their empire on the state-owned land, or the leased out land, they did everything to act as masters of the general public and lived with a sense of entitlement. But least did they know that the Government will, one day, come after them and will hold them accountable because until recently, they had the backing of the political elite of J&K, which is now a gone case.
What the political elites did was they let these cronies eat a little, and ensured that they kept a good chunk for themselves too. That way, it was more of a symbiosis that sustained and flourished in J&K with those in the system and those out of it, contributing equally to the state of order that kept nurturing the disease which hallowed the entire structure and ensured that those in power get to have an upper hand, did whatever they wanted to without any check while the commoners were left to fend for themselves. With the new line of action of the present administration, people are expecting things to change for good. They are hoping for the players of the symbiosis to ultimately be held accountable for the wrongs, and the ecosystem dismantled. Is that a lot to ask?
Be it the Gulmarg lease eviction or the State/Roshini land evictions, the LG administration must take the final call and ensure the implementation of the decisions which have been taken. We have seen the orchards being axed in the cases where the land was encroached—fair enough, people are expecting the same treatment with influential people who have been considering the encroached or the leased out land their property. People now want 100 per cent results and at the same time, it is expected that the LG administration will stick to the no-nonsense approach in this regard. This Republic Day, let the Government make it clear that it means business, and it will get its directives implemented across J&K, no matter what. Honourable LG, Manoj Sinha Sahab, you have taken the task in hand; now take it to its conclusion. Come up to the expectations of people. Make them feel the change.
