Ganderbal: The newly-constructed Wayil Bridge in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was opened for traffic on a trial basis on Wednesday. However, on Thursday, a youth attempted to end his life by jumping into the river from the bridge but his life was saved by two alert cops.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the police are trying to ascertain the reason behind the youth’s suicide attempt.
The youth (name withheld) is a daily wage worker in the Wildlife Department, the official said, adding that the youth was rescued by the on-duty police personnel of Police Post Gutlibagh Hilal Ahmad and Muzaffar Ahmad.
“The police officers present at the site immediately sprang into action when they saw the youth attempting to end his life. They managed to pull him out of the river and provided first aid to him,” the official said, adding that the youth is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital and his condition is stable—(KNO)
