Cong visit a hand-holding mission: Karra

Forthcoming visit of the Congress policy group on Kashmir to J&K beginning Sunday will underline the party’s policy of hand-holding the people of this state, distressed by the continuing violence for the past 30 years.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led group is arriving here on Sunday and it will be the first visit of the Congress group on Kashmir since its formation early this year.

“This is a concerted effort of the party for hand-holding the people of the state against a policy of repression that the current Central and the state administration has unleashed keeping in with the stated policy of the RSS to crush and rule in J&K,” said Tariq Hamid Karra, senior party leader and member of the all-important group of the party on Kashmir.

This group was formed to offer fresh air to the people of all three regions of J&K, freeing them of the suffocating atmosphere of fear and violence. Kashmir is distanced from the rest of the country more now than it was ever before as there is lack of “communication” between the BJP-ruled Centre and the people of Kashmir.

With the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to J&K tomorrow, the party is signalling that it is willing to reach out to the people. “But this came only after the Congress group announced its schedule to visit the different parts of the state and interact with the people,” Karra added
