Encounter rages in Srinagar outskirts

Three troopers including two officers sustain injuries

Srinagar, June 28: A gunfight raged in Maloora area of Srinagar outskirts after Joint Forces cordoned off the area on Monday.

   The encounter is in progress while joint forces have sealed the area. Eyewitnesses said that intermittent firing is going on.

They said amid gunshots reverberating in the atmosphere, police evacuated people from the area to safer places.

   Before the encounter in Maloora, Joint Forces had arrested two militants including a top LeT commander from Parimpora area of Srinagar city.

   Latest reports said that two officers and a constable have sustained bullet injuries in ongoing encounter.

Sources told that all the three have been shifted to hospital for treatment.

The inured troopers have been identified as DySp Satender Kumar of 21 Battalion, Sub-Inspector Shivam Kumar of 28 Battalion CRPF presently attached with Quick Reaction Team and constable Waseem Ahmed.

The encounter was in progress till the filing of this report. (KNT)
